and additions by other architects), the structure’s main

1987 ,‫הפנימית‬ conceived as a miniature city. The central courtyard is
located at the heart of the building and is surrounded
by a vestibule, which forms a mid-zone separating and
connecting the rooms and corridors which all gather
at an open yard. As in the residential complex the
firm planned at the time in the Gonen neighborhood
in Jerusalem, here too the units surrounding the yard
stand out for their unique design, each according to its
specific usage: classrooms, laboratories, assembly halls
and offices. Another feature that can also be found at
the Jerusalem residential complex is the design element
that links the different units. Besides the finishing
material used on all of the building’s parts, a clear formal
language unites its appearance: round apertures on the
facades facing the internal courtyard (creating a uniform
façade for all units), trimmed corners where the facades
meet, and shading that protects the openings. Special
attention was given to permanent shading solutions that
protect the windows on the façade from direct sunlight,
and to shaded areas in the internal courtyard.
