                               Life Sciences and Medicine,
                               Tel Aviv University

Upward view from the The last library planned by the firm at the Tel Aviv
entrance lobby, 1997 University campus rises three-stories high, merging
1997 ,‫מבט למעלה ממבואת הכניסה‬ into a complex planned by Arieh and Eldar Sharon,
where it functions as the side wall of the square by the
203 Sackler School of Medicine, also shared by the adjacent
buildings. As for the Library for Social Sciences and
Management, here too the plot conditions dictated the
position of the main façade to face west, and its design
benefited from a similar solution: the west façade comprises
a set of sunshades in the form of concrete beams that
overhang the windows. At the front part of the library is a
space rising to the full height of the building, with apertures
at its top that channel natural light all the way down to
the lower levels. A high ceilinged reading hall connects
the building’s levels and allows visitors to view the entire
structure. Special attention was given to acoustic
solutions in the central space. In order to eliminate the
accumulation of whirring noise, all the banisters were
covered in wood and a sound-absorbing material.

In contrast to the other libraries that cater
primarily to students, here it was necessary to
accommodate the needs of the staff and practicing
doctors on campus for specialized training. Therefore,
many efforts were invested in the interior design and
in the meticulous execution of reading and working
                               stations, chairs, banisters and counters.
